PADUCAH, Ky. (September 11, 2024) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 1 have arrested a Tennessee man following a pursuit on Interstate 24 that transpired across Lyon, Livingston, Marshall, and McCracken Counties. This incident did result in the westbound lanes of I-24 being closed for a short time as the man was taken into custody around the 17 mile marker.

Just before 6:30pm CT, Trooper Wesley Thompson with KSP Post 1 observed a white 2022 Dodge Durango traveling westbound on I-24 near the 42 mile marker at a high rate of speed, in excess of 100 miles per hour. Trooper Thompson attempted to conduct a traffic stop by activating his emergency equipment; however, the operator failed to yeild and continued traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was successfully utilized which slowed the pursuit and ultimately the vehicle stopped at approximately the 17 mile marker. The operator failed to cooperate with troopers’ commands to exit the vehicle.

While stopped and refusing to comply with verbal commands from troopers, the operator displayed erratic behavior. Troopers requested additional resources, including an armored vehicle from the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, to ensure the greatest likelihood of a safe resolution to the incident. The westbound lanes of I-24 were breifly closed during this time. Utilizing the armored vehicle, troopers were able to safely take the operator into custody without further incident.

The operator was identified as Evin Rion, 29 years old of Lebanon, TN. Due to his suspected intoxicated state, he was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. He has been charged with Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree, Wanton Endangerment, DUI 2nd Offense, along with numerous other traffic offenses, and remains at a local hospital receiving medical treatment.

KSP would like to thank all agencies that assisted, including the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and Mercy EMS.
